We have completely forgotten about these shots until now.
Part of the story line was when the male and female lead reconcile. Before that, there is also a scene where the girl storms home (for continuity as she storms out of her friend's house and into the street) and binge-eats on ice cream while watching tv. It isn't necessary, but it helps make the sequence of events more logical. It also appeals to the female target audience, who can relate to the music video through these shots. Moreover, this scene included a part where the girl throws a cushion at a photo frame, which emphasises her emotions and presents some clear match-on-action camera angels/shots. The male protagonist then arrives at the girl's house with friendship offerings in the form of a DVD and food.
Mise-en-scene
To make the shot more interesting, we threw a colourful blanket over the brown sofa, which also gave a more youthful look to the living room. Girly cushions were also placed, such as a "Little-Miss-Sunshine" cushion and heart-shape cushion. Junk food was placed around the floor of the sofa and a Ben and Jerry's ice cream. The only problem with this set was the red curtain in the background, which darkened the scene and made the character blend into the background (my character was wearing a pink top), making her less visible.
Lighting
We had the same problem where our natural light source was in front of the camera, rather than behind. So we drew the curtains and switched the main lights on. However, this also made the red curtains more noticeable in the shot. There were also windows from behind, so we drew back the curtains for them for maximum exposure.
Filming
Various shots and angles of the female lead binge-eating ice cream was taken first. Next was the throwing-cushion-at-photo-frame, and the other match-on-action shot when the male lead appears at the door. There were few problems that occurred during filming, though the prevalent one is when filming the two protagonists walking past the camera and into the house, the tripod was kicked/walked into several times due to the narrow corridor.
